Currently when RIPE NCC re-assigns an AS to another entity after the 6 month waiting period, there's an IRR cleanup process but not an RPKI one, which leads to many newly assigned ASNs coming with pre-existing ROAs[1]. In this session we'll go over some of the results and data found by studying past assignments, the impact to business operations, and then spend most of the slot discussing potential solutions or future actions that may be needed.

This presentation will discuss the current state of 2024-01, revisit the changes and history, and outline the authors' perspective on how the document should proceed following the PDP.
We are seeking early community feedback on an upcoming policy proposal to remove the option of retaining legacy status after a transfer, to address the increasing overhead for the RIPE NCC, the increasing market speculation around a scarce resource and the impact on the adoption of best practices like RPKI.
